Today is my Mum’s 66th birthday and I don’t think she’ll mind me declaring her age because, thanks to her twice weekly yoga classes, she looks at least ten years younger! She also credits yoga with helping her to have the best night’s sleep of the week (she must have read my previous post then!) and she credits her brief foray into Pilates for improving her posture and reminding her about the importance of maintaining good core connection throughout her day. At her age she is now thinner, stronger and stands taller than when she was in her fifties. She also has better core muscles than me, which I’ll have to work on…

Mum is a great example of how to grow old gracefully and what I love about her is that she is my strongest advocate and promoter because she believes she has found the best teacher in the world in me! I don’t push her into things she doesn’t want to do (for example, after 8 years of yoga she has never done a shoulderstand, nor does she want to) but I do gently encourage her to push her boundaries a little and as a result she has more flexibility now than ever. Soon, I will be pushing her gently towards yoga teacher training as I think she would make an excellent teacher. After all, she taught me everything I know!!!!!
