About Victoria

Victoria Cunningham is the Founder and Director of StretchBodyMind. She holds an MA Honours degree in English Literature & Sociology and an MSc in Marketing as well as numerous certificates and diplomas in youth and community work and training/facilitation.

After doing youth work by day and teaching yoga by night she developed successful charity Stretch & Play for children and young people back in 2006. She then created Stretch NI in late-2009 to work specifically with adults and then moved to Scotland in late 2012 and developed this work into online and offline courses through StretchBodyMind.

She has been practising yoga for over 30 years and teaching for almost 20; while she has been teaching Pilates since 2006 and been training teachers since 2007.

She is a Senior Yoga Teacher (1000+ hours) and is insured to teach both Yoga and Pilates at all levels (including pregnancy yoga). She is also the Pilates professional employed by Platinum Training Institute in Belfast and delivers training for them every year.

Christine Flannery is a chartered physiotherapist, qualifying in 1975 and later specialising in treating musculo-skeletal problems. The latter part of her full-time career (2000 onwards) involved management and development roles.

She first attended yoga classes in 1973 and, while she qualified to teach Pilates 5 years ago, her main love has always been yoga. So she was thrilled to train as a 200 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher with Victoria and StretchBodyMind in 2015.

She is very interested in anatomy and how it applies to yoga and is the A&P specialist on all StretchBodyMind Teacher Training courses where she blends her physiotherapy knowledge with over 40 years of yoga experience.

Karen Howie first discovered yoga classes (Iyengar) in 2007 after 20 years of participating in her love for Aerobics and Step. Following this new found practice and discovering how yoga could help her with niggling injuries she had attained over the years, she started attending workshops and weekend yoga courses to delve deeper into the karen-picworld of Yoga and the different styles.

In 2009 she completed her Hatha Yoga Diploma with the Devon School of Yoga. Loving the benefits that Yoga offered her she decided to leave the world of pounding her body through Spinning, High Energy Aerobics, Step & Weights behind. She completed her Ashtanga Vinyasa certification in 2012 and Advanced Ashtanga through Rocket Yoga in 2013 with It’s Yoga Thailand.

Karen has been studying and practicing Yoga for nearly 10 years and has been teaching since 2009. Her teaching style blends an appreciation for a strong body, a love of movement, flowing breath and a quiet mind. She is committed to inspiring people to live their best life through the practice of yoga.

Having practiced Yoga since her twenties, in 2012 Claire embarked on her initial 200 Hour Hatha Yoga Teacher training journey with Paddy Hamill of Santosha Yoga Studio in Lisburn which was an incredible and life-changing experience. Passionate that a Yoga practice is for everyone, Claire left her corporate career and opened her studio to provide Yoga and Holistic Therapies within the Mid-Ulster area.

Autumn 2018 sees a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training with StretchBodyMind commencing at the studio, a first for the area, where Claire will Tutor alongside Victoria Cunningham. Additionally, Claire is a qualified Active Antenatal Educator through The Daisy Foundation where she delivers weekly women’s only classes and Active Birth Workshops for expectant mums & their birth partners.

Continually learning she regularly attends Workshops and Events in Yoga, Meditation and Mindfulness and is currently enrolled with The Summers School of Yin Yoga founded by International Yoga Teacher Josh Summers and is working towards her 500 Hour Accreditation. Claire is also a Holistic Therapist having trained in Baby Massage, Indian Head Massage, Reiki Level1 & Reiki Level 2.

Joanna has been involved in the fitness industry for 25 years and has taught mind and body classes for 18 years. She attended her first yoga class 18 years ago and was instantly hooked.

After years of personal practice, she completed her training in 2015 with Conrad Paul at the YMCA in Manchester and has completed further training in yin yoga, meditation, kids’ yoga, baby yoga and massage as well as Yoga for Trauma.

She’s really excited to be bringing StretchBodyMind Yoga Teacher Training to Ulverston at La Vida Yoga – the town’s only yoga studio which is situated right in the heart of the town.
